Why shouldn’t I use a standard diagonal cutter for wire rope? A standard cutter has “V-shaped” blades that crush the cable, causing the strands to fan out (splay). This makes it impossible to thread the cable into a terminal. The 1899WR-8 uses a bypass shear action that keeps the cable strands bundled together.
